Southern Oregon's Only Certified Biodynamic and Organic Vineyard and Farm

Cowhorn is a small, organic, biodynamic farm nestled in the Applegate Valley. Owners Bill and Barbara Steele had been living in the Bay Area and working in finance before their move up north. In 2002 they found property in the foothills of the Siskiyous that would allow them to make their transition to southern Oregon.

Blending careful observation with extensive soil analysis and lots of ongoing R&D, they’re discovering what does well on their 117 acres: asparagus and other crops needing fertile soil on parts of the property close to the mountains, and grapes on the rocky soil close to the Applegate river. At the Co-op we literally can’t get enough of their asparagus, and the valley can’t get enough of the Cowhorn label wines! Crops in development include mid and late season cherries, hazelnuts, and artichokes (both purple and green). Bill and Barbara employ four full-timers, 52 weeks of the year.

Cowhorn is certified Biodynamic® through Demeter USA. Cowhorn has also been certified organic through Stellar Certification Services. We at the Co-op certify them “Yum.”
