Meet our October Change For Good Recipient: Jackson County SART
Jackson County SART is dedicated to reducing the trauma of sexual and domestic violence and helping survivors heal. Further, SART strives to prevent this violence in our communities through education and change.
Throughout both Jackson and Josephine County, survivors (aged 15+) are offered free, immediate and confidential care, help obtaining resources like stable housing and counseling, and ongoing support. Recently, these resources have been expanded to include a 24/7 response to domestic violence survivors, an important addition to area services.
SART also partners with Jackson County students, parents and teachers to confront serious health crises together. Over a 13-year period, our classes help students learn how to build healthy relationships and create a peer culture that helps prevent sexual and other types of violence. We help parents understand what their kids are learning and how to support them, and we train school staff how to respond when a student discloses abuse.
In addition, SART provides training for groups like police and health workers so they can better understand and respond to survivors in trauma. They also train local businesses that want to build or maintain a safe and respectful workplace, including bars, restaurants, gyms and farms.
“We aim to provide affirming and respectful care that meets the needs of all we serve.”
